Sacred Space Landscape & Design was founded in 2001 by our principal Landscape Designer, Melanie Rekola. Melanie, an accomplished artist & creative dynamo, possesses a lifelong passion for design and all things green. As a compliment to her extensive design background, she studied horticulture through the University of Guelph.

It is Melanie’s belief that for a project to be truly spectacular there must be careful balance of both the hard (stonework and woodwork) and soft (trees and plant material) elements. She takes much of her personal design tastes from nature itself . Her construction crews are very skilled and qualified, paying careful attention to the details that really add a “wow factor” to every landscape. The construction practices implemented are above industry standards and meant to withstand the test of time; proper base construction and drainage are paramount for the results to last.

It is the combination of these levels of expertise that has afforded Sacred Space several prestigious awards, including two provincial honours from Landscape Ontario’s “Awards of Excellence” program, and even a national tribute from David Suzuki! Three of Melanie’s projects have also been featured at the popular “Canada Blooms” landscaping festival. Her extensive knowledge gained by creating beautiful outdoor living spaces has led to her to become a respected magazine writer, featured in “Pools, Spas, and Patios” , “Our Homes” magazine and more.
